What is happening

Most homes are damaged or destroyed, families live in tents through winter, and more than half the population still faces crisis-level hunger.

A ceasefire began on 10 October 2025, but people in Gaza are still being killed and injured: Gaza’s Ministry of Health reports 1,493 people killed and 5,299 injured since then, as of 12 October 2026. The damage from two years of war is enormous. Most buildings are damaged or destroyed, and hundreds of thousands of people remain displaced, many living in tents or unsafe, flood-prone sites.

Food has become more available than during the famine of 2025, but more than half the population still cannot reliably feed itself, and UN partners warn that funding cuts are reducing cooked meals and food parcels from October 2026. Restrictions on fuel, spare parts and equipment limit water desalination and repairs.

Winter is the next danger: families in tents face flooding and cold, and children have died of hypothermia. Aid groups are asking for shelter materials, winter clothing, food and medical care.

Who is most affected

  • Children

About half of Gaza’s population are children. Many have lost parents and homes, and nearly two years of school.

  • Families in tents

Hundreds of thousands live in tents or damaged buildings, exposed to flooding and cold.

  • Patients

With hospitals only partly working, people with injuries, chronic illness and pregnant women struggle to get care.

Questions about giving for Gaza

Does aid reach Gaza now?

More aid has entered since the ceasefire, including over 100,000 tents through UN coordination and donations. But restrictions on items such as fuel, spare parts and equipment, and funding shortfalls, still limit what agencies can do. Organisations with teams inside Gaza can respond fastest.

Which charity should I choose?

Any of the three at the top is a strong choice. UNRWA runs the largest shelter and food network, PCRF focuses on medical care for children, and Medical Aid for Palestinians supports hospitals.

Can I give zakat for Gaza?

Some charities, such as Islamic Relief, run zakat-compliant appeals. Check the charity’s zakat policy, and ask a scholar you trust if you are unsure.

Can’t donate right now?

Sharing reliable information still helps. Attention brings funding, and funding brings aid. More ways to help.
